Press Release

Boston/Linz – November 17, 2009 – dynaTrace software, the innovator and emerging leader in application performance management (APM), today announced the general availability of dynaTrace AJAX Edition, a free tool to diagnose and resolve complex AJAX performance problems. The release of the dynaTrace AJAX Edition extends the company’s industry-leading server-side transaction performance management technology to a rapidly expanding class of client-side performance challenges.

Companies around the world are trying to deliver rich Internet applications that better meet the needs of business users and consumers alike. In an effort to deliver more interactive, engaging applications, developers are splitting segments of application logic away from the server-side to run in the browser – with AJAX being the dominant technology used in these new client-side application extensions.

To support this migration, developers rely on a number of frameworks like jQuery, Google Web Toolkit, Dojo, and YUI to accelerate their AJAX implementations. While these frameworks may speed initial development, they hide many of the performance and scalability issues that infiltrate these increasingly complex applications. In a growing number of cases, the resulting performance problems undermine the usability gains and the potential business value from AJAX remains unrealized.

The dynaTrace AJAX Edition is built with those challenges in mind. It provides deep visibility into how AJAX-based applications work under load, provides code level insight into 3rd-party frameworks, and enables application developers with a powerful new way to optimize the performance and scalability of their AJAX-based applications.

"When it comes to analyzing your JavaScript code to find what's causing performance issues, dynaTrace AJAX Edition has the information to pinpoint the high-level area all the way down to the actual line of code that needs to be improved,” noted Steve Souders, Web performance expert at Google and author of best-seller High Performance Web Sites. Read Steve Souders’ complete review of the early access version of the dynaTrace AJAX Edition.

"I’m very impressed with dynaTrace AJAX Edition’s ability to get at the underlying “magic” that happens inside a browser: page rendering, DOM method execution, browser events, and page layout calculation,” wrote John Resig, Creator of jQuery and author of Pro JavaScript Techniques. “Much of this information is completely hidden from developers and I’ve never seen it so easily collected into a single tool. Huge kudos to dynaTrace for revealing this information and especially so for making it happen in Internet Explorer.”

“dynaTrace Ajax Edition is the best tool I’ve ever seen in this space,” said Andrew Espinosa, principle engineer, Monster.com. “It feels like a Christmas present."

dynaTrace AJAX Edition enables application developers and testers to:
* Understand performance as real users experience it (including rendering times)
* Differentiate between browser and server bottlenecks
* Trace asynchronous JavaScript executions for the full round-trip
* Analyze JavaScript, AJAX remoting, network and rendering performance in real-time
* Save performance data for interactive offline analysis
* Transform Selenium/Watir tests into performance tests and integrate them with your CI environment
